There is only one company operating ferry services from East and West Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Red Funnel Group runs the only available services from East and West Cowes to the coastal city of Southampton.
Passenger-vehicle ferry services operate frequent crossings between East Cowes and Southampton.
The duration of the sailing is 55 minutes and the speed of the vessel is 13 knots. On board facilities include a café serving hot and cold food, a bar, games room, baby-changing facilities and good facilities for disabled passengers.
The faster Red Jet Hi-Speed service operates frequent sailings between West Cowes and Southampton. The speed of the vessel is 35 knots and the crossing time is just 22 minutes. Cold drinks are available on board, but there are no toilets on the ship. The voyage can't be booked in advance; you just have to show up if you wish to travel with the fast service. Facilities for disabled passengers are excellent on this service.
The Red Falcon is the vessel operating between East Cowes and Southampton. The ship can carry 895 passengers and 200 vehicles. The craft has been in service since 1994 and was built in Gdansk, Poland. The Red Eagle serves the same route and can also carry the same amount of passengers and vehicles, while the vessel reaches 14 knots. While the Red Eagle has been in service since 1996, the Red Osprey has been in service since 1994.
The Red Jet operates the route from West Cowes to Southampton. The vessel was built in 2003 and the ship can carry 275 passengers.
